Walking along the shoreline, one encounters remnants shaped by the tides of time—shells and stones left behind by the sea’s enduring currents. Randomly arranged, they resemble fragments of an axis of history; within their quiet order, the accumulation of time becomes visible.
In ancient mythology, mermaids made courageous choices in pursuit of love or freedom. Though they ultimately dissolved into sea foam, their stories endure as poignant allegories etched into the human heart. Inspired by the aqueous bubbles formed within seashells, this work traces movements that shift from above to below and from below to above. What appears to be a tangible, figurative form reveals an elusive state of motion—an existence that seems present yet intangible—through which the imagery is delicately rendered.
The Direction of Flow reflects upon the way we perceive the world. The same subject, shaped by different experiences and perspectives, can transform our existing ways of thinking. A sequence of directional forms guides viewers to discover where their hearts are drawn within the work—like marine life moving through the sea, or like standing at the shoreline, watching the waters stretch from near to far in a tranquil, unfolding horizon.
When water molecules linger in the air, they transform into weightless imaginings—drifting and shifting through space. When their density overflows, all thoughts pour down from the sky. Like floating clouds, like butterflies in flight, the blurred imagery seen through rain becomes a soft, whispering haze. And when the rain finally clears, under a brightened sky, the mind too gradually returns to clarity.
