16F|Powder Coated Steel 2017
This interwoven double-wire design juxtaposes two motifs: a rectilinear grille symbolizing imprisonment and restraint and a radiating ripple-like design symbolizing freedom and liberation. The work is inspired by the early history of Taiwan when the first settlers took enormous risks to emigrate from mainland China to establish a new life in Taiwan. The work is inspired by the Taiwanese people’s pioneer spirit and willingness to create the unknown, provoking further reflection on the island’s rich social history. Under bright light, the artwork exploits the phenomenon of the persistence of vision to prolong the fleeting glimpse, ensuring the piece lingers on in memory.
